1000 watt hours - what a relief: finally no more dictated savings. Finally, no more mental arithmetic about how many metres of altitude you could still cover. No more worrying that the last light will flash on the climb. Finally enough fuel in the tank and the reassuring feeling that even after 2500 metres in altitude and with tired legs, you can still hit the turbo on the last ramp: Riese & Müller Delite Mountain with Bosch Performance CX and dual battery - the first carefree high-altitude e-MTB on the market. Yes, the bike is heavy - 27 kilos with both batteries. And yes, the bike costs a lot of money - 5299 euros with one battery. According to R&M, you have to buy the second one separately. But: With other e-MTBs, you have to do the same with the spare battery. You then have to carry it in your rucksack, which puts pressure on your hump and shifts the centre of gravity uncomfortably upwards. For transalpine bikers, this is an inconvenience anyway, as the rucksack is already full with the seven things.
On the Delite Mountain, the second battery is clicked into the frame under the top tube. It is connected to the first battery (which sits on the down tube as usual) via a Y-cable. When riding, both batteries discharge simultaneously, the first strip of the charge indicator on the display only disappears at 550 to 600 metres of altitude. Tremalzo, Altissimo and other classic tours are no longer a problem.
problem at all. Convenient: You can charge both batteries at the same time in the garage or hotel in the evening with a charger via a socket on the frame.
The bike itself is a typical Riese & Müller - German workmanship, everything is solid, well equipped, everything works perfectly - from the adjustable seat post to the lights, which do a good job in the Lake Garda tunnels. With 120 mm travel at the front and 100 mm at the rear, the bike is a touring and marathon bike - you shouldn't expect top downhill performance. The high weight hardly bothers you on the trail, at most when loading it onto the rear rack.
CONCLUSION Ideal E-MTB for long tours and Transalp adventures. 1000 watt hours are enough for 3000 metres in altitude. Short tours can also be ridden with just one battery.
