BH Bikes presents the iLynx+ SL Aluminium, a new version of its electric mountain bike. The Spanish manufacturer is thus expanding the existing iLynx+ SL range to include models with aluminium frames, which are positioned below the carbon versions in terms of price. At the heart of the new models is a newly developed frame made from hydroformed and polished aluminium.
The triple-butted aluminium frame of the new iLynx+ SL is manufactured using the hydroforming process. According to BH, this technology enables the production of complex tube shapes and targeted reinforcements in areas subject to stress. Polished weld seams ensure a modern look that is inspired by the carbon models. Technically, the aluminium frame offers the same solutions as the more expensive carbon version: a Super Boost rear axle for more stiffness and tyre clearance, internal cable routing with Acros block and the slim and linear design. It is also compatible with the external XPro additional battery.
BH offers the iLynx+ SL Aluminium in two platforms: A trail version with 140 millimetres of travel at the rear and 140 or 150 millimetres at the front, as well as an enduro version with 160 millimetres of travel. The compact chainstays (440 millimetres) should enable lively handling in tight terrain. In general, BH promises a similarly safe and agile riding experience as the carbon models. Find out how the carbon version fared in the test here!
BH relies on Shimano motors for the drives. The three most affordable models of the iLynx+ SL Aluminium are equipped with the Shimano EP6 motor, which offers a maximum torque of 85 Newton metres. The higher-priced variants and the carbon models continue to use the Shimano EP801, currently the most advanced full-power motor from Shimano. Both motors have E-Tube connectivity and the EN600L remote control.
The iLynx+ SL is equipped with an internal 630 watt-hour battery as standard. An external 180 watt-hour XPro battery can be fitted as an option, increasing the total capacity to up to 810 watt-hours. BH relies on dual discharge of the batteries, which allows both energy storage units to be used in parallel without any loss of performance.
With the introduction of the aluminium versions, the iLynx+ SL product family has grown to a total of ten models. According to BH, the four new entry-level models with aluminium frames allow access to this product category at a lower price without having to sacrifice the most important performance features. The entry-level price for the iLynx+ SL is now 4,199 euros. The three other aluminium models cost 4699 euros, 4799 euros and 5399 euros. By the way: BH has also made improvements to the carbon versions, which will be reflected in more attractive prices and a new colour scheme for the new model year.
