The 300-piece limited edition version of the YT Izzo trail bike aims to stand out from the crowd. With its bright paintwork and exclusive features, the Izzo Uncaged catches the eye even when stationary. In order to make the original 130-millimetre fully appealing to down-country riders, the suspension travel has been reduced to 120 millimetres at the front and rear.
Premium parts such as the XCR 1200 Spline carbon wheels from DT Swiss, Sram XX1 Eagle AXS components and suspension from the super-light Ultimate series from Rockshox hint at the YT's race bike ambitions. Only the grippy G2 four-piston brake system hints at the origins of the Izzo.
The riding position is sporty thanks to the long reach. The tightly tuned suspension is also more reminiscent of a racy race bike than the potent setup of its big brother. However, the high total weight due to the 2611 gram frame calls into question the Izzo's suitability for racing.
On fast, rough downhills, the 730 millimetre narrow handlebars don't inspire much confidence. And the low-profile Rekon Race tyres don't provide much support here either, but they do roll well.
The rear suspension tends to bob when pedalling. On the Izzo Uncaged 7, however, this can be easily and reliably eliminated from the handlebars using the Twistloc. Disadvantage: To lock the suspension, you have to release the secure grip on the handlebars.
Thomas Weschta, BIKE tester: The YT Izzo Uncaged 7 doesn't seem to know exactly what it wants to be. On the one hand, its trail bike origins give hope for fast downhills, but with its firm suspension it is more like a classic marathon full-suspension bike for the race track.
