Santa Cruz is premium and premium is carbon. At least that's how it is for most bike manufacturers these days, with a few exceptions. That's why the Californians are now also converting their most versatile bike, the appropriately named Chameleon, to carbon fibre. The result should be a more beautiful, lighter and even more versatile bike that nevertheless remains true to the concept of its predecessor.
The bike is indeed versatile. At least at first glance at the dry data, it looks like Santa Cruz has done everything right. With the chainstay length, the customer can choose between a super playful 415 or a more moderate 430 millimetres using the dropouts, the head angle of 67.2 degrees is nice and slack for a hardtail without being extreme, the seat angle of 73 degrees is moderate and ensures good pedalling.
The Chameleon also has a bottle cage in the frame and one underneath. The latter can also be used as a luggage holder. The reach of 457 millimetres and the compatibility with 29 and 27.5+ are just as up to date as the cable for dropper posts running through the frame. From crisp home trail tours to bikepacking, everything should be possible with the Chameleon, at least that's what Santa Cruz promises.
The frame is available for 1499 euros, complete bikes with GX Eagle, Fox 34 Performance and aluminium wheels cost 4199 euros. However, if you want carbon wheels, you'll have to pay almost €2000 more.
