Debut: The Polish gravity specialists from NS Bikes present their first e-bike. The E-Fine is available in two versions with different amounts of suspension travel and customised geo.

NS Bikes is known for gravity bikes. It goes without saying that the Polish brand's first e-MTB is also fully geared towards downhill riding. With a very slack head angle (63.8°), a decent reach of 480 mm in size L and 455 mm chainstays, the E-Fine seems to be designed for smooth running and hard descents. NS-Bikes offers the E-Fine in two versions. But it's not just the equipment that varies, the suspension travel also differs by 10 millimetres.

The facts about the NS Bikes E-Fine at a glance

  • Wheel size: Mullet
  • Suspension travel: E-Fine 1: 170 / 160; E-Fine 2: 160 / 150
  • Frame material: Aluminium
  • Motor: Shimano EP8 (E-Fine 1) / Shimano E7000 (E-Fine 2)
  • Weight (manufacturer's specification): 22.5 kilogrammes ( E-Fine 1) / 24.5 kilogrammes (E-Fine 2)
  • Prices: 7599 Euro (E-Fine 1) / 6299 Euro (E-Fine 2)

While the E-Fine 1 for maximum pick-up qualities 160 millimetres from the steel spring damper in the rear, the E-Fine 2 with 150 millimetres be a little more playful. In addition to the reduced suspension travel, the steering angle has also been steepened by half a degree. Both bikes come in a mullet design. The large 29-inch front wheel is intended to provide more grip and better rollover behaviour, while the smaller 27.5-inch rear wheel is designed to encourage playfulness.

The E-Fine 1 costs 7599 Euro and combines a steel spring damper (160 mm) with a 170 mm ZEB from Rockshox. Propulsion is provided by Shimano's EP8 with a 630 battery. The E-Fine 2 has one centimetre less travel at the front and rear and relies on a cheaper drive: Shimano's E7000 and 504 watt hours are fitted in the aluminium frame. What's more, the Polish company only uses Shimano's affordable Deore 11-speed drivetrain. On the other hand 6299 Euro unfortunately not a bargain price.

Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
