Radon Skeen Trail: new carbon version of the trail bike
Radon's Skeen Trail is a very good 29-inch trail bike for under € 2,500. For 2020, the Bonn-based direct mail order company is now launching a carbon version of the full suspension bike with 130/120 mm travel.

Although the Radon Skeen Trail has been on the market unchanged for many years, it last showed in BIKE 3/19 that it is still competitive. Our conclusion at the time: "Despite its age, the Radon Skeen Trail remains a very good bike with unbeatable value for money." In the 2020 model year, the Bonn-based direct mail order company will continue to hold on to the dinosaur of its model range. For example, the Skeen Trail 10.0which we tested back then, is even 650 euros cheaper. Radon is also launching a carbon version with revised geometry and a new frame design - the Skeen Trail CF.

Carbon version of the Skeen Trail from 2500 euros

The trail bike will be available in three versions from November 2019. The price range extends from 2500 euros to 3700 euros, depending on the equipment. With a slacker head angle (66.5 degrees) and steeper seat angle (76.4 degrees), longer reach (474 mm in size L) and shorter chainstays, the geometry of the CF version differs significantly from the ageing aluminium model and should benefit the bike, especially on the downhill. The carbon main frame should continue to deliver 120 millimetres of travel and is combined with 130 mm forks. The rear frame triangle is also made of aluminium on the CF models.

Also in carbon with comparatively simple equipment: The Skeen Trail CF 9.0 is equipped with Fox Rhythm suspension and Shimano SLX/XT mix, but offers an inexpensive entry into the trail bike segment for just 2500 euros.Photo: Hersteller Also in carbon with comparatively simple equipment: The Skeen Trail CF 9.0 is equipped with Fox Rhythm suspension and Shimano SLX/XT mix, but offers an inexpensive entry into the trail bike segment for just 2500 euros.

All three models have the same main frame, come with a chain guide, single drivetrain and Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres. For 3700 euros, you can already get the top model from the mail-order company, which is convincingly equipped as usual. Skeen Trail CF 10.0 SL with a Sram X01/X1 Eagle groupset and Fox Factory suspension. Together with the Newmen Evolution SL wheels and Sram G2 RSC brakes, the complete bike should weigh in at 12.7 kilos. If you go for the cheapest option, the Skeen Trail CF 9.0, you can get Fox suspension (Rhythm), a Shimano SLX/XT gear mix and simple Magura brakes for just 2500 euros. The Radon should weigh Skeen Trail CF 9.0 13.5 kilos. The Skeen is available in between for 3000 euros Trail CF 10.0which is said to weigh 13.2 kilos and comes with Rockshox suspension and Sram GX Eagle gears.
