The Orbea Occam is available as a TR trail bike and as an All Mountain AM. Both bikes have already impressed in BIKE tests in the past. For 2018, the Basque company is only revising the two models in detail, but the focus is on improved downhill characteristics.
Orbea has given the test-winning bike a fork with more travel: instead of the previous 120 millimetres of travel, the 2018 model has a 130 millimetre fork. The stanchions have also increased in diameter: For better performance, Orbea is installing Fox 34 forks (previously Fox 32). Only the cheapest model has a Rock Shox Recon suspension fork.
The 29er rear triangle also offers space for wide Plus tyres. In addition to the regular 29-inch bikes, two Plus bikes are available at dealers for the first time - one with an aluminium frame and one with a carbon frame. The wide tyres are designed to provide more safety and traction. The bike will also be available in S for the new season (in addition to sizes M, L and XL). There will be four versions with an aluminium frame and four more with a carbon fibre chassis.
The Basques have also trimmed the big brother Occam AM more for downhill riding: the rear triangle squeezes 150 millimetres of travel out of the now metric shock (previously: 140 millimetres). Orbea has also fitted a 150 mm suspension fork to match. The new Fox Float DPX2 shock is also designed to improve downhill performance. The geometry has hardly changed, but the Orbea Occam AM will also be available in XL in the future. In addition to the three aluminium versions, Orbea also offers three carbon bikes.
