Even visually, the Focus Bold² 29 stands out from the mass of E-MTB hardtails. No oversized down tube, no bulky battery attachment.

How does that work? As standard, the Focus e-bike is only equipped with a slim 375 watt-hour battery that sits firmly in the down tube. The idea behind it: On short tours, bikers only carry as much energy as they actually need. On long rides, an external battery provides an additional 375 watt hours. However, this must be purchased separately for 500 euros. Off to the trail: a stretched riding position, very smooth running, wide 29er tyres and grippy brakes with large discs - the Focus e-mountainbike is equipped for demanding tours and trails. The geometry is a great compromise between climbing strength and downhill ability, smoothness and playfulness. This puts the Bold2 at the top of the practical rankings, helped by its low weight. The moderate reach costs points, but this shortcoming can be compensated for with the additional battery.

Conclusion: Balanced riding characteristics, sensible equipment, low weight: The Focus Bold ² 29 LTD is a perfect e-mountain bike for tough terrain - with a special battery concept.

Reach height 1038 hm
Time / 500 hm 23.7 min.

An additional battery is available for the Focus Bold², which doubles the available energy to 756 Wh. This more than makes up for the Focus' low range. However, it also costs an extra 500 euros and weighs an additional 2.2 kilos.Photo: Markus Greber An additional battery is available for the Focus Bold², which doubles the available energy to 756 Wh. Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
