Hardly any other rider can push through bends as stylishly as Bryn Aktinson. Bryn who? The Australian raced professionally in cross country and downhill for a long time, but now his focus is on videos and photos. His latest flick: The presentation of the new Norco Optic trail bikes. We say: Absolutely worth seeing!
The Norco Optic falls into the category of modern trail bikes: The Canadians combine the 125-millimetre rear triangle with a 140 mm fork. Norco claims: "The new rear suspension responds more sensitively, while at the same time offering more counter-pressure and greater end progression. The initially quite high anti-squat decreases over the course of the suspension travel. This is intended to prevent pedal kickback and still stabilise the rear end when pedalling. Norco combines the carbon fibre main frame with an aluminium rear triangle.
The geometry is modern and geared towards downhill riding: in frame size L, the reach measures an impressive 480 millimetres. To prevent the Optic from mutating into a stretching bench, the seat angle is 76 degrees steep. The slack 65-degree steering angle and a shortened fork offset ensure a smooth ride. The chainstays grow with the frame size: From 425 millimetres in S to 440 millimetres in XL.
Four different models and a frameset will be available from dealers from November. All bikes have the same frame and Super Deluxe shocks from Rockshox that have been specially customised for Norco. In addition, all versions are fitted with high-quality Schwalbe tyres with a soft compound in 29 inch. According to the manufacturer, all bikes fit a 750-millilitre water bottle.
The top model has an electronic Sram AXS drivetrain and Tele support. Carbon rims should ensure lively handling. The 5499 euro Optic C1 also has a Pike Ultimate fork, but changes gears mechanically with the Shimano XTR. The C2 is significantly cheaper at 4399 euros. Here, the Canadians install a Pike Select Plus suspension fork, a 12-speed GX drivetrain and favourable Shimano brakes. The C3 marks the entry level for 3399 euros with a Pike Select fork, Sram NX drivetrain and very simple Shimano stoppers. The C2 and C3 are also available in a women's version.
