For e-beginners: 8 E-MTB fullys in a comparison test
Once the e-MTB spark has been ignited, the fire spreads quickly. We tested eight bikes under €4,000 and show which models are best suited as fire starters.

There are probably few pieces of sports equipment where the aha effect is as great as with e-mountain biking. Get on, start pedalling and off you go. With the first turn of the cranks, the corners of your mouth lift and the bike flies forwards as if the toughest winter of training is behind you. Occasional bikers lose their fear of steep climbs and long rides. From now on, more metres in altitude are possible, the after-work ride fits into even the tightest of time slots, and at the weekend, more trail metres fill your precious free time.

E-mountain bikes have enormous addictive potential, and the current market figures show this: No other bike category is growing so rapidly! The only brake pad: the price. The motorised off-road speedsters leave a deep hole in your wallet. Real riding fun and off-road capability start with fullys for just under 4000 euros. And in this price range, the air is thin. Hardly any manufacturer can get through the equipment list without making compromises, as our test group with eight bikes between 3600 and 4000 euros shows. It's worth taking a closer look. Because the equipment can decide whether the day ends with a grin - or a grim look. The good news: some of the candidates in the test have what it takes to light a blazing E-MTB fire.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
