The Thömus Lightrider E1 has a carbon chassis and, depending on the configuration, 130 or 150 millimetres of suspension travel at the front and rear. The e-MTB is therefore aimed at trail bikers and all-mountain riders. The frame offers space for tyres up to 2.8 inches wide. These should provide traction and safety. With the help of the carbon frame, the Swiss want to achieve a total weight of less than 20 kilograms.
Thömus from Oberried near Bern favours the Shimano Steps drive, as it is very compact and is best suited to the geometry of a modern mountain bike. The chainstays in particular no longer have to be so long. Despite the smaller size the motor has shown in initial tests that it is a serious competitor for Bosch & Co.. The 500 Wh battery from Shimano should provide sufficient range, and a spare battery can be ordered in the Thömus configurator. The motor settings and the configuration of the Di2 gears can be changed from a smartphone via Bluetooth.
The equipment of the Lightrider E1 can be selected in the configurator: Depending on your preference, you can choose between downhill-focussed parts or lightweight carbon wheels. Shifting is either mechanical or electronic. On request, the Swiss can also convert the tyres to tubeless and save you the mess in the basement. The disadvantage of the configurator: If you tick too many boxes, the price rises from 5500 francs into the five-digit range.
