At 11.5 kilos, the Slamr X is the lightest bike in the test and is incredibly lively on the trail. We were faster on no other bike. Thanks to its weight and firm suspension, the bike generates a lot of pop and wants to jump over every root. However, when the trail gets rough, the 150 millimetres of travel at the rear feel a lot less. Then the somewhat flexy rear end makes itself heard with a loud clatter, chokes and reveals itself as a cross-country rear end. Although the bike is easy to pull onto the rear wheel thanks to the short chainstays, the stretched riding position doesn't really give you that freeride feeling. On the drops, off-road jumps and doubles of the Isar trails, we used to feel unsafe on the Ghost and had the feeling that we were pushing the bike too far. It does have the manufacturer's park approval, but after just a few rough drops you realise that the Slamr X doesn't like this rough pace, preferring to scurry along the trail without any hard hits. That's when it's really in its element.
Conclusion: The Ghost was the fastest bike in the test and therefore a lot of fun. However, it is not a trail bike as we define it. For that, it would have to be more playful and potent.
