More touring bike than trail machine: with these words, Cube gave us the 2018 model of the Cube Stereo 120 for the test.

And yes: The Cube Stereo 120 HPC is not afraid of steep climbs or long tours. The riding position is comfortable, the weight is reasonable at 12.3 kilos and the spec is beyond reproach. We are more optimistic about the second part of Cube's claim, because the Stereo 120 doesn't have to hide on the trail either. Ok, with its narrow 2.25 tyres and comfortable suspension, the Stereo is not designed for full-throttle descents. Nevertheless, the tourer impresses with its fun and agility. The rear suspension is very sensitive and literally soaks up the root carpets on the flatter trails in Rabenberg. In combination with the rollover-friendly 29er wheels, this provides a lot of comfort off-road. The high-quality Fox Kashima suspension elements can be locked out on the climbs and the rear suspension bobs minimally in open mode. The bottom bracket is very low, so the pedals can get stuck when pedalling over roots. The saddle takes some getting used to.

Test summary of the Cube Stereo 120

Comfortable all-round bike with powerful equipment and sensitive suspension. Perfect for long tours and rides in moderately difficult terrain.

The alternative: If you're quick, you can still get hold of the 2017 model in the sale. Apart from the wheels, the equipment was similar.
