Cosy tourer: Univega Summit E 4.0
From the brakes to the hubs to the gears, the Univega comes with high-quality Shimano XT components - a real equipment hit.

Unfortunately, the Summit E 4.0 can't carry this glamour off-road. If the ground gets slippery, rough or steep, the bike doesn't feel very secure. It's surprisingly nervous for a 29er. This is due to the steepest head angle of the test field, the very narrow tyres and the short front end of the frame (reach). In addition, the performance of the high-quality brakes is limited by the small brake discs (160 millimetres on the rear wheel!). Uphill, the summit rider's hour has come: thanks to the long chainstays, the front wheel almost sticks to the ground and the riding position is very compact. Comfort-conscious bikers will be pleased, but sporty riders will want a longer bike. The Bosch motor pushes powerfully and persistently as usual.

Conclusion: A cosy touring bike with high-quality equipment and proven drive, which is only partially comfortable off paved forest roads.

Reach height 1591 hm
Time / 500 hm 21.7 min.

Annoying: Once the seatpost is adjusted, there are already big scratches in the aluminium. Badly worn seat tubes should actually be a thing of the past. Unfortunately not on the test bikes from KTM and Univega.Photo: Markus Greber Annoying: Once the seatpost is adjusted, there are already big scratches in the aluminium. Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
