The eagle lands in Koblenz in 2017. Because the motto there is: 12-speed drivetrains in all mountain bike categories at Canyon. Many Canyon buyers can look forward to the increased range in 2017. The Sram Eagle offers 500 per cent range with all the advantages of a single drive. Anyone expecting new fully models from Canyon for 2017 will have to wait until Eurobike. But here is a small preview of four new Canyon bikes for next season. The more affordable version of the Exceed carbon hardtail is completely new.
The more affordable brother of the Canyon Exceed CF SLX 9.9 Pro tested in BIKE 2/16 (BIKE verdict "super") comes in 2017 with Sram X01 Eagle drivetrain, DT Swiss XR1501 Spline One wheels and Rock Shox SID fork. The famously light frame of the Exceed CF SLX (992 grams) is used as a template, the carbon layup will not be as elaborate on the new Exceed CF SL and the hardtail frame will also weigh a few grams more. But the geometry will remain the same as the top frame.
Canyon's touring and Transalp bike, the Nerve, will be crossing the Alps next year under the name Neuron. An X01 Eagle from Sram is fitted to the Neuron so that high mountain bikers can also tackle steep climbs with a single-speed drivetrain. The rest of the equipment is typically Canyon classy: Fox Factory suspension with 120 millimetres of travel, Mavic XA Elite 29-inch wheels and, of course, a Reverb complete the Canyon Neuron.
For the first time, the Spetral with carbon chassis is also available for women. Almost everything on this bike comes from Sram in Schweinfurt: Rock Shox Pike with 150 millimetres of suspension travel, Rock Shox Monarch shock, Sram X01 Eagle 12-speed drivetrain and Guide RS brakes. As before, the Spectral rolls on 27.5-inch wheels, this model on the high-quality DT Swiss XM 1501 Spline One. In addition, many add-on parts have been customised for female ergonomics.
The men's Spectral is built similarly to the women's version: Rock Shox Pike with 150 millimetres, Monarch RT3 shock, Sram X01 Eagle 12-speed drivetrain and Guide brakes. The wheels are also identical: DT Swiss XM 1501 Spline One.
