An XTR rear derailleur sparkles with the golden Kashima coating of the suspension elements, while the rest of the XT groupset is in line with the test field standard. However, the triple crankset is a unique selling point and provides the option of "off-road reduction" on nasty steep ramps. The suspension is drive-neutral and can be ridden uphill in open shock mode without any problems. The response behaviour of the shock on descents is a little stubborn, with smaller bumps only being partially filtered out and larger bumps or compressions almost bringing the rear end to its knees. The very short reach, wheelbase and light wheels make the Nerve an agile cornering predator, but put the rider in a rather squat riding position. The 80 millimetre stem only partially remedies this. Nice: Two colours to choose from.
ConclusionThe Nerve is still an attractive bike in its third model year. It scores with its equipment and drive efficiency. Be careful when choosing your size, it runs small.
The alternative: With the Nerve AL 9.0 SL WMN, the mail order company from Koblenz offers a special women's version at the same price. The lighter lady construction saves half a kilo and is available in two colour variants.
