The second bike with a Shimano motor in the test clearly shows the differences between an integrated and external battery.

The down tube of the Blizzard has extreme dimensions to accommodate the large battery and provide sufficient stability at the same time. This puts pressure on the scales - the Rock Machine is over two kilos heavier than the Ghost, despite comparable equipment. This is not unpleasantly noticeable on rough climbs. The bike climbs well and balanced thanks to its stable stroke and sensitive response, but with the typical Shimano power disadvantage at low cadences. Downhill, the bike feels good and secure, but is not particularly lively and feels massive when accelerating. The riding position is very good, but the battery protruding far forward makes it difficult to lift the front and push off the ground spontaneously. The tyres have good grip, but the TRP brakes offer a little less bite than the Magura or the Shimano Zee, but proved to be sufficiently stable.

Conclusion: Good uphill and downhill performance, without any real weaknesses, but also without any highlights in either discipline. Visually solid.

Fully integrated batteries are tidier. They require a massive amount of material to create the installation space for the unit. They are also longer and bring more weight towards the front. Nice, but no gain in performance.Photo: Markus Greber Fully integrated batteries are tidier. They require a massive amount of material to create the installation space for the unit.
