Professional mountain biker Korbinian Engstler, film producer David Karg and photographer Janik Steiner present "Why not?", an unusual travel documentary. The film, which premiered on 25 May 2025, follows the three friends on their search for freedom and happiness through breathtaking landscapes in Iceland, Canada and Namibia.
He combines spectacular mountain bike action with profound thoughts about what really counts in life. "Why not?" deliberately rejects superficial promises of happiness and perfectly staged social media realities. Instead, the film shows a more honest perspective on life with all its challenges, uncertainties and unexpected twists and turns.
The documentary invites viewers to look inwards and examine their own ideas of happiness and fulfilment. The filmmakers emphasise that it is not about being happy all the time. Rather, it is about collecting moments that are worth remembering.
The film shows that true happiness can often be found in imperfect but authentic moments - in friendships, in the freedom of the moment and sometimes even in the chaos of life. "Why not?" encourages us to go our own way, to let go and to search for what is really important.
In the course of their journey through three continents, the protagonists learn that perhaps the pursuit of happiness itself should not be the goal, but rather a deeper satisfaction. They describe this realisation as more sustainable and as something that is in their own hands.
The film shows that in the end, it is not the perfect pictures, the likes on social media or the supposedly ideal travel destinations that are remembered. Instead, it is the unexpected, genuine moments that have meaning and leave a lasting impression.
"Why not?" is therefore more than a classic travel or action film. It sees itself as an invitation to pause, feel for yourself and make your own decisions instead of following predetermined paths.
