Mega Cavern: Biking underground [Video]
Perfectly maintained trails, 30 metres underground: from pump tracks and jumps to trail and cross-country circuits. The US state of Kentucky has the largest indoor bike park in the world.

Huuugge - In the land of unlimited possibilities, there is the largest indoor bike park in the world. In Louisville in the US state of Kentucky, bikers can let off steam in an old limestone mine 30 metres below the earth's surface. There are now over 45 trails to choose from on an area of around 33,000 square metres. From BMX and jump-heavy tracks to classic single trails and cross-country laps, everything is on offer. Freeride pro Rob J visited the park with photographer Sebastian Doerk while it was still under construction and brought back a nice video and some great photos:

By the way: in addition to the bike park, Kentucky's largest building also has space for an adventure park, an event area and a huge storage centre. A day ticket for the bike park costs 24 dollars. All information at www.louisvillemegacavern.com.

Trail builder Joe Prisel has modelled 45 trails of all levels of difficulty in the former mine.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
