The Republic of Cabo Verde is spread over 15 islands, nine of which are inhabited. Of these, Santo Antao, Santiago and Sao Nicolau (which we did not visit) are particularly suitable for bikers.
Santo Antao: Santo Antao, which is almost 2000 metres high, is 20 by 40 kilometres at its widest points and is considered the greenest island in Cape Verde. A few roads paved with basalt run through the rugged volcanic mountains.
Santiago: The main island of the state is not much larger than Antao, but with a maximum summit height of 1300 metres, it is significantly flatter. The tours are correspondingly easier. Here too, most of the paths and roads are paved, but those who improvise will find plenty of trails.
