2500 kilometres of cycling adventure
The New Zealand Cycle Trail, which stretches across the North and South Island, offers 2500 kilometres of cycling adventure.

Nga Haeranga" - this is the Maori name for New Zealand's cycle path network and means something like "the journeys". There are now 23 mapped out routes, called "Great Rides", which take touring cyclists to the various landscapes of New Zealand. One highlight, for example, is the "Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail" on the South Island. Starting at Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain, it leads 300 kilometres from the New Zealand Alps to the Pacific Ocean. The route leads past limestone cliffs, the turquoise-coloured Lake Pukaki, vineyards and Maori rock art.

If you prefer to sample New Zealand's best wines as a reward after cycling, the Marlborough wine region is the place to go. Information on the cycle routes, maps and accommodation tips at www.nzcycletrail.com
