187 km/5 567 m elevation gain - 4 stages - difficulty: ****
(max. 6 stars)
The route is suitable for: advanced touring bikers who want to slowly approach the subject of the Transalp
The highlights: Heidelberger Hütte, Fimberpass Trail, Val Mora, Passo Val Viola with Bernina view
A Transalp is only a crossing of the Alps if you conquer the main Alpine ridge once. And that's what you do on this route, only the start and finish points are closer together. Perfect for bikers who have already toured through the high mountains but are not yet confident enough to tackle an eight-day Transalp.
Of course, nothing is given to you in the main Alpine ridge. You tour through the high mountains - gravel roads can become rough and taper off into paths. On this tour, you have to climb a total of 1,000 metres in altitude three times in one go and sometimes have to push and carry the bike on the last few metres to the Heilbronner Hut and up to the Fimber Pass. In return, you have a clear view of glaciated peaks and are rewarded with one of the most beautiful downhill trails in the Alps on the way down to Scuol!
But you can also make it easier for yourself: Skip the first two stages with the longest climbs and start in Scuol in the Lower Engadine. From here, the route is relatively gentle to the Pass da Costainas and on to Val Mora. This is followed by 25 kilometres on an almost flat high-level gravel path with magnificent views before you hurtle down from the Passo Val Viola to Poschiavo.
