You’ve got everything you need with you; everyday life is left behind in the valley, and then, pedal stroke by pedal stroke, you head into a mountain world that radiates such tranquillity and strength. Today, you won’t be turning back either; instead, at the top of the pass, with your pulse racing, you’ll gaze out at a whole new perspective – and let yourself roll into it with curiosity. Until the next climb awaits, which you’ll tackle bend by bend, until yet another new perspective opens up. Ups and downs – just like life.
In fact, crossing the Alps provides the perfect setting for professional coaching. At any rate, that was the thinking of Transalp organiser Ulptours when putting together its new tour programme for the 2027 season.
“Coaching & Transalp” is the name of the new five-day tour, which will take participants from Garmisch to Nauders via the Reschen Pass in three stages. The physical challenges are kept to a minimum. Participants are expected to feel the physical exertion so that they can recognise their limits and experience a sense of fulfilment at the pass. However, they should still have enough energy left for coaching sessions and occasional reflection exercises. The aim is to combine tackling daily stages together with working towards a pre-defined life goal.
The Zugspitze, Eibsee, the Mieminger Kette, the Lower Engadine and Mount Ortler will provide an inspiring backdrop. The route between them follows tarmac or gravel paths and is easy to manage with a basic knowledge of cycling techniques.
From Garmisch, the route takes you past the idyllic Eibsee and via the Hochthörlehütte into Tyrol. In Ehrwald, the route continues up and down a panoramic path, where a larch forest provides the perfect spot for a coaching session. The stage then winds its way down to Biberwiier with a descent.
The Via Claudia climbs over the Fern Pass and leads into a beautiful high valley. This is where the next coaching session takes place, with views of the Mieminger Range and an impressive high-alpine cirque. We then head down a flowing trail to Lake Fernstein and continue through the Gurgl Valley into the Inn Valley. Here, too, there’s another session with views of the Pitztal Alps.
Following the Inn Valley Cycle Route, the route takes you via Ried and Pfunds into Switzerland, where a gravel path – steep in places – winds its way up to Schwarzsee. About halfway up, with views over the Lower Engadine, the next session takes place, before the route descends via the Norbertshöhe to Nauders. There, the cable car takes you up to the sundowner session, set against the majestic panorama of Lake Reschen, Cevedale and King Ortler.
