"When the battery is humming, the e-bike is healthy." At least that's the view of Toni Reiter, who set off with two friends on a five-day E-MTB transalp from Lake Chiemsee to Lake Garda.

Three bikers from Bavaria for the Event professional Toni Reiter have proven that "normal athletes" can also tackle big challenges in a shorter time with e-mountainbikes. The trio completed the 460-kilometre MTB Transalp from Lake Chiemsee to Lake Garda with their all-mountain bikes, covering 11,600 metres of altitude. Well-trained riders on normal bikes need 9 to 10 days for this very special crossing of the Alps.

The e-bike crew not only had muesli bars, rainproof clothing and bike tools in their rucksacks, but also a second battery and a charger for refuelling in between. Despite this, the hardships and weather conditions were tough. There was snow on the almost 2,700 metre-high crossing at the Krimmler Tauern, and in some cases they rode their 12-hour stages in constant rain well into the dark. Not to mention a few crashes and minor injuries. But Torbole on Lake Garda was reached as planned after five daily stages. In addition to proving that the same Transalp tours are possible with e-mountainbikes as with their classic, heavy-duty counterparts, they also came to another unifying realisation: whether with a battery or without - the best source of energy is still a beer during a break!
