"It's dangerous to recommend a must-ride trail, because it depends on the form of the day, your companions and your taste!" (Steffi Marth)
Nevertheless, there are trails that you have to ride once in your life, so we do it anyway...
Anyone who thinks that the Bike Republic Sölden only has marble runs will be quite surprised by the Fernar Trail. You can only get to this remote trail at 2800 metres on the Tiefenbach glacier with a shuttle or a lot of muscle power. Up there, you'll be standing on the roof of the Alps and, if visibility is good (and it usually is!), you'll have a view that will take your breath away. You can only marvel at all the mountain peaks that pierce the sky like dragon's teeth. The quite natural Fernar Trail is very technical and has some tricky spots where you don't want to fall. # Alpine freeriding. This requires concentration, but enhances the experience. Around 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, it is unimaginably brilliant for biking - as long as it is high summer. Then the sun sticks to the sky for most of the day. The tour to the mountain hut Låktatjåkka or to the clearest lake in Sweden, Trollsjön, is arduous but impressive. Believe me! If you're not afraid of wet boots, snowfields and cold wind, you'll be rewarded with epic descents, a dream landscape and delicious waffles with cloudberry jam. The tour in Swedish Lapland is an adventure. I'll put my hand in the campfire for that! You should have been up there once in your life.
Kirchberg in Tirol - and the Kitzbühel Alps in general - are not exactly known as a bike Mecca for downhill enthusiasts. But the Fleckalm trail really blew me away. 7.1 kilometres long (1100 metres in depth) and full of variety: easy panoramic trail, lush forest sections with built wooden elements, root carpets, groovy berms, high-speed passages - it's all there, it's all there. The best thing: from the second or third descent, you can really step on the gas and find some jumps where none were actually planned. Second plus point: there's still not much going on. www.trailforks.com
New Zealand?! I know: you can hardly go any further away. But you can dream, right? Especially in Corona times. One thing is clear: if you fly to the other side of the world, you have to spend at least a month in Kiwi land. The same applies to Rotorua: you don't have to ride a trail twice if you don't want to. The city on the North Island is a biker's dream come true. There is a dense network of super trails. My favourites are Box of Birds because of the crazy jungle experience and Split Enz because of the fantastic flowing sunset scenery. www.trailforks.com
I find it difficult to decide which trail in Leogang is the best. It depends on my mood. Do I want to be scared (World Cup DH), do I want airtime (Flying Gangster), do I want to play (Flow Link). The fact is, there's a lot in this bike park. And since the Leogangers have upgraded - even more! Probably my favourite trail section is the Flow Link. Unfortunately, the trail is damn short. Outside of the main routes, you can also have a lot of fun on the Schwarzleo or the new Knappen Trail. It doesn't get boring so quickly in Leogang! www.bikepark.saalfelden-leogang.com
