E-MTB: Register battery transport by plane
Bought an e-MTB and now off to the Canary Islands to enjoy spring a few months earlier? Unfortunately, this is not so easy by plane. The batteries are considered dangerous goods.

What many people don't realise: The lithium-ion batteries of e-bikes are considered "dangerous goods" in air transport due to the risk of fire in the event of a short circuit and must be declared accordingly. According to the guidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), transport in passenger aircraft has been prohibited since 1 January 2015. Most airlines therefore generally exclude e-bikes from air transport. Batteries may only be transported separately from the
e-bike, exclusively in cargo aircraft and labelled with a declaration. Special, short-circuit-proof packaging is also mandatory. It is not recommended to simply ship an e-bike without a declaration. Violating the guidelines for the transport of dangerous goods can result in horrendous penalties.
