Even in the wilderness, mountain bikers don't want to do without comfort and take with them what they would normally find in their home - just in a smaller version. Bed, kitchen, tools and cupboards for storage.

With these 20 items, you can still enjoy enough comfort on a bikepacking tour to feel a little bit at home:

1 UNDERSLEEP Topeak's Bikamper uses the bike as a support instead of poles. The handlebars and front wheel stretch the 1.35-kilo tent body into a comfortable hut. One person can sleep peacefully in the waterproof interior without being constantly woken up by buzzing insects. Price: 199.95 euros.

2 WATER CARRIERS The Klean Kanteen Classic is the alternative to the disposable plastic bottle. It holds 800 millilitres of water, is BPA-free and does not absorb odours even after hundreds of fillings. But the best thing is: thanks to the screw cap, you don't have to frantically pour a sip of water down your throat while driving, but can drink while enjoying the beautiful view. Price: approx. 27.95 euros >> available here.

3 SLEEPING LABORATORY The Ultralight Insulated Mat from Sea to Summit looks like an oversized honeycomb. Its spot-welded chambers are designed to adapt better to the shape of the body. Insulation on the inside reflects body heat. No more puff to inflate? No problem: the pack sack of the 510 gram mat also serves as a pump sack. Price: Currently available from Bergfreunde for 139 euros.

4 POCKET KITCHEN The 73 gram Pocket Rocket 2 gas cooker from MSR is barely bigger than a car key. But if you place it on a screw-in cartridge, it really heats up your dinner. Both large and small pots stand securely on the ribbed holders. Price: 59.95 euros >> available here.

5 HOLY GRAIL A titanium goblet: can a biker imagine a more beautiful drinking vessel? The 138 gram Vargo BOT holds 700 millilitres, serves as a cooking pot, cup with handle or transport container and is made to last. Cheers, meal time, whatever. Price: 155 euros >> e.g. available at Bergfreunde.

6 FIRE STEEL The No8 with walnut handle, an Opinel classic, should actually be in the trunk here. But we opted for the Explore No12 with a 10-centimetre blade. It not only makes firewood, but also throws the necessary sparks for the campfire thanks to the integrated flint.

7 KLÄRWERK The MSR TrailShot is the water filter for your pocket and removes bacteria and protozoa from up to one litre of spring water per minute. Put the hose in the water, pump and quench your thirst. This is how you can obtain precious drinking water from even the smallest pond. Price: 54.95 euros >> e.g. available from Tapir.

8 PRESSURE BOILER For many bikers, a good espresso is like tension in the wheel. Without it, things just don't run smoothly. With the Nanopresso, you are your own barista, no matter how far away the nearest coffee bar is. With 18 bar pressure, 80 millilitres of black happiness are squeezed out of the 336 gram espresso machine. Price: 64.95 euros e.g. at Amazon or Mountain time available.

9 SOLAR COLLECTOR The light of the sun not only supplies our bodies with energy, but also the dust- and shock-resistant 15000mAH power bank from RAVPower. When fully fuelled, a Samsung Galaxy S8 can be recharged up to eight times. Two devices can be docked at the same time. If the sun has disappeared behind the horizon, the lamp on the back will still light the way. RRP: 33.99 euros.

BACK PROTECTOR

If you're self-sufficient and touring through the wilderness for days on end, you can easily end up with eight kilos of luggage and more. Of course, you don't want to bend your back with that. With these parts, you can turn your bike into a load donkey.

1 WONDERFUL BAG The Vaude Trailsaddle hangs from the saddle frame and support like a cocoon. A maximum of twelve litres of luggage can fit in the waterproof changing bag. For loading and unloading, the pack sack can be conveniently peeled out of its robust holder and then securely fastened again with three buckles. Price: available at Bergzeit.

2 TITAN CARRIERS As the name suggests, the Many Things Cage from King Cage can carry a lot. The lightweight and robust titanium holder is attached to the frame or fork with three screws and can hold a sleeping bag, tent or insulating mat. Two matching voile straps are included. Find out what they can do next. Price: 80 euros.

3 STRAP HOLDER Voile straps are the ecological alternative to cable ties and are much more practical because they are reusable. The stretchable polyurethane straps can be used to secure almost anything anywhere on the frame. The tube over the bottom bracket bend, a sleeping bag on the handlebars, or the foot in a defective bike shoe. There are virtually no limits to your creativity. Voile Straps are available in three lengths, five colours and with aluminium or nylon buckles. Price: from 7.50 euros.

4 CAMELBUCKLE The Gas Tank from Revelate sits on the top tube like the hump on a camel's back. The 100 gram lightweight bag holds around 1.3 litres and can be opened all the way round with one hand. Tools, camera or bars are always within easy reach. The Gas Tank, made in the USA, is available in many different colours. Price: 69.99 euros.

5 FORWARD ROLL With the EXP Series, Salsa provides innovative solutions for bikepackers. Particularly clever: the 400 gram Anything Cradle. It holds the 15 litre EXP Series Dry Bag like a front loader and keeps it reliably away from the gear and brake cables. If you pack the small 1.7 litre Front Pouch on top, you always have access to a quick snack or your camera. As a set for 239.99 euros.

BREAKDOWN HELPER

Even more than 200 years after the invention of the bicycle, we are not completely immune to punctures. Flat tyres are still an unnecessary evil. But at least today there are handy tools and accessories that can go some way to preventing punctures.

1 PERMANENT RUNNER The WTB Ranger in a width of 2.8 inches is a workhorse and a jack-of-all-trades. Dry or wet, hard or soft - it can cope with almost any surface thanks to its solid outer and slightly rolling centre lugs. The solid carcass effectively protects against punctures and predestines the hunter, which weighs just under a kilo, for day-long bikepacking adventures. Price: from 44.95 euros.

2 HOSE At just 80 grams (in 29 inch), Tubolito provides a lightweight argument for riding tubes again. A thermoplastic elastomer reduces the weight by two thirds compared to a standard inner tube. The TPU material is said to be twice as robust as classic rubber. Price: 29.90 euros >> e.g. available from Rose.

3 PANEL PROTECTION Tubeless milk not only reduces weight, but also saves you the hassle of patching tyres. One 237-millilitre bottle of Orange Seal Tubeless Sealant is enough for two 29er tyres. The puncture serum can be easily injected into the tyre using the supplied injector. The O-juice seals holes up to six millimetres in size or 1.8 millimetre cuts. Price: 15 euros.

4 SURPRISE EGG The thumb-sized Dynaplug torpedo does not contain Ferrero collectible gnomes, but rather smart tubeless patches. If you press the repair pin in the lid into the hole in the tyre, the sealant inside sticks like a bee's stinger in the skin. The set contains five repair plugs, two different stingers, a knife, air stopper and cleaning brush. Price: 54.90 euros.

5 UNDECLARED WORKERS The parkerised surface of the Blackburn Tradesman Tool not only looks hip, it also protects the 18 tools from rust. The real novelty, however, is the integrated chain lock breaker. In addition, there are the most important tools, a pad spreader with chain lock holder and the solid craftsman look on top. Price: 29.95 euros.
