Zermatt: longest flow trail in Switzerland
The Sunnegga Trail in Zermatt opens on 16 September 2018. At 5.8 kilometres in length and 500 metres in depth, the newly created mountain bike flow trail is the longest in Switzerland.

Three years of planning and building. For one and a half summers, 23 trail builders from the Zermatt depot built the Sunnegga Trail. This was preceded by a 1.5-year planning phase. The route starts on the so-called Sunnegga at 2288 metres and ends 500 metres down the valley just above Zermatt. Individual sections of the Sunnegga Trail were already accessible, but now the entire flow trail is to be opened on 16 September. "With a length of 5.8 kilometres, it is the longest continuous newly built flow trail in Switzerland," says Adrian Greiner, Managing Director of BikePlan - the company that planned the trail and provided technical support during its construction. But this superlative is unlikely to last long. Because in Arosa, an almost seven-kilometre-long flow trail under the Hörnli cable car is due to open in summer 2019.

Opening with Gary Fisher

Every biker is cordially invited to the opening ceremony on 16 September 2018. It starts at 10:00 am in the Obere Matten marquee in Zermatt with information about the project. Afterwards, participants will travel together by train to Sunnegga, where the flow trail will be officially opened together with Gary Fisher. Over the next few years, more trails and paths are to be created for mountain bikers in Zermatt. Another trail is already under construction: the flow trail between Riffelberg and Schweigmatte is expected to open in late summer 2019. Bikers can also look forward to several new kilometres of trails between Blauherd and Sunnegga in the near future.
