The Surselva valley in the canton of Graubünden stretches from the source of the Rhine at the Oberalp Pass to the confluence with the Hinterrhein at Reichenau. Around Flims and Laax you will find countless tours and the bike park, tempting lakes and delicious places to stop for a bite to eat.
Journey
Travelling to the Surselva is uncomplicated. Coming from the north, take the A13 motorway to Chur (toll sticker!). It is 12 kilometres from the Reichenau exit to Flims Laax. Take the train to Chur and then continue by post bus (www.postauto.ch). Transporting bikes is no more a problem here than on the Rhaetian Railway, which runs through the valley.
Bike park
7.6 km and 740 metres in depth - the Runca Trail, which has been awarded the IMBA flow country trail award, has made the bike park in Flims Laax famous. None other than Claudio Caluori built the Never-End-Trail and the pump track in the valley.
Eating and sleeping
From self-catering accommodation to bike hotels, there is everything in the valley. The Hotel Arena Flims is a fun and relaxed place to stay. Bike and ski brands have customised the rooms here. In addition to the lodge, there is also the guesthouse. www.arenaflims.ch
With his white moustache, Roland from the Fidazerhof in a hamlet just above Flims is a show in his own right. He serves excellent slow food made from regional and mostly organic produce. Not only is the food delicious, you can also stay overnight at the Fidazerhof. Hotel Fidazerhof: www.fidazerhof.ch
