Switzerland: Bernese Oberland
Eiger North Face - the name makes mountaineers shudder. But we freeriders rejoice, because the slopes around Grindelwald are peppered with alpine super trails. Here we show you six lucky charms in the Bernese Oberland.

If you haven't been to Grindelwald in your life, you've missed something!" said action icon Clint Eastwood after filming the thriller "Eiger Sanction". If Clint had been a freerider, the statement would have been doubly true. Of course, the panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau with its pearly white fields of snow can only be understood when you stand in front of the mountain giants and stare into the shady north faces - it is unique and unforgettable. You don't even have to be a mountaineer to see it. But it would be a shame to miss out on the many trails that criss-cross the mountain flanks here. And yet the Bernese Oberland is hardly any further away from Stuttgart or Munich than Lake Garda.

Midsummer is the ideal time for a trip here - then the sun has vaporised even the last, stubborn patches of snow from the dark corners and the trails crunch dry under the studded tyres. Whether you're a suspension cowboy or an enduro rider - everyone gets their money's worth here. That's why we have selected six very different trails for you. From short, adrenaline-fuelled freeride trails with built stunts to alpine adventures lasting several hours. All of them are within a 30-minute drive of Interlaken and give you an idea of how much potential this region has. Unfortunately, bikers are only allowed to use two cable cars for the uphill section: the Grütschalp cable car from Lauterbrunnen and the Wiriehorn cable car on the permanent downhill route.

These trails are described in the PDF download below:

1st Lobhorn hut trail
2nd Niederhorn Trail
3. Kleine-Scheidegg-Trail
4th Einteregg-Lauterbrunnen Trail
5. downhill Wiriehorn
6. freeride trail Schwanden-Brienz
