The village of Andermatt, which has around 1300 inhabitants, is located in the Swiss canton of Uri, on the old road to the Sankt Gotthard Pass. Coming from the north, you have to cross the notorious Schöllenen Gorge to reach the Ursern Valley. In addition to the Gotthard (to Ticino), the Furka (to Valais) and Oberalp (to Graubünden) passes also start here. Due to these weather differences, bikers will almost always find dry conditions in the immediate vicinity. The gently green Ursern Valley is surrounded by high Alpine scenery. The local mountain is the almost 3000 metre high Gemsstock.
Pretty mountain villages, wildly winding pass roads, jingling cows - but hardly any tourist kitsch make the Ursern Valley truly unspoilt. The Matterhorn-Gotthard railway, post buses and lovingly maintained nostalgic cable cars take mountain bikes without any problems. This is a historic and diverse high Alpine region with plenty of fun flow trails.
