Only discovered two years ago, the Coast Trail has already catapulted itself into the top ten of the most popular Lake Garda trails. And rightly so, as it is one of the few forest floor descents (almost) without scree. Before the descent, however, there is the 1000 metre ascent on the Altissimo road. Just below Malga Casina, the Coast Trail finally branches off to the right. Forest floor! Gentle bends! The trail is technically demanding, but with grip. When you reach the first gravel road, the trail climbs briefly and then immediately turns right into the trail again. Watch out for the key section: After a hairpin bend, there is a free fall. Barrier tape is there to prevent the worst. If your name isn't Hans Rey, it's best to climb down the five-metre-high step on foot. Afterwards, take the Sentiero dei Paloni down to Torbole.
Afterwards I'm looking forward to my first cappuccino at Mecki's Bike & Coffee. Before the tour, of course. After the tour, I'll definitely order toast and wheat beer and have a chat with Mary and Lucio. www.mecki.com
