South Tyrol: mountain biking on the sunny side of the Alps
Dolomites, Vinschgau trails, palm trees in Merano and even better weather - South Tyrol really is on the sunny side of the Alps. And the bike season is starting now. Here are the best MTB spots...

Just behind the main Alpine ridge, South Tyrol spreads out its valleys in the sun. Mediterranean air currents usually ensure snow-free high mountain passes here from as early as March. So if you want to start your season early, simply cross the Brenner Pass. But then you have to decide on an area, because the South Tyrolean bike spots are extremely varied in character. Single trail fans will probably head straight for the Vinschgau Valley - although have you heard of the challenging natural trails in the Pustertal Valley? Families with children will feel most at home in the varied mountains around Merano/Meran and nature lovers simply have to head to the Dolomite backdrop of Fanes Valley and Sesto/Sexten.

To make it easier for you to decide, we have put together the best bike spots in South Tyrol including tour highlights for you. We also provide the addresses of bike-friendly accommodation. Here, the hotel owners still bike themselves, which is always a guarantee of well-being on holiday. We hope you enjoy making your selection and have a great holiday on South Tyrol's trails.

Since Gitta crossed the Alps twice at racing speed, she has favoured multi-day tours - by MTB in the Alps or by gravel bike through the German low mountain ranges.
