Whether you're an enduro rider, freerider, transalp rider or a trail-seeker without a label: Val di Fassa is a mature mountain bike area for anyone who feels drawn to the combination of high mountains and single trails. The valley lies in the far north-east of Trentino and forms a border triangle with South Tyrol and Veneto.
The centrepiece of this part of the Dolomites is the huge, pie-shaped Sella Group. Not only mountain bikers, but also skiers, motorcyclists and racing cyclists will immediately think of the Sellaronda. The valley town of Canazei offers the perfect introduction to this legendary tour over four passes and the four Ladin valleys bordering the Sella Group. The tour can be ridden along the tracks of the tough Sellaronda Hero bike marathon or, more recently, as a trail variant using the numerous lifts around the huge mountain range.
However, there are plenty of reasons to stay in Val di Fassa. The bike park at Belvedere is one of them. If there was a bike park ranking for scenic beauty, this would probably be right at the top. The views of the surrounding Dolomite giants such as the Civetta, Marmolada, Sella, Sassolungo and Catinaccio are hard to beat. But the lines are also impressive: The bike park was opened back in 2006 and has undergone constant evolution since then. There is a mix of fast park lines and technically challenging descents in steeper terrain. Enduro riders will love it.
Although a few cable cars can be integrated into the tour planning in the rest of Val di Fassa, the majority of the mountain flanks around Val di Fassa are more of a playground for "classic" tour riders. Beautiful side valleys surrounded by rock, some challenging climbs, hidden corners and numerous single trails await you here, which are worth every effort.

Trentino Tour 14: Val San Nicolò
Tour data and tour rating
Starting point
Buffaurè cable car car park on the outskirts of Pozza di Fassa
Route
Tarred roads are not very popular with bikers, but the one at the entrance to Val San Nicolòs will make you happy. The steepest section is completed on firm ground. From an altitude of 1700 metres, a gravel road leads up a pleasant gradient to the Baita alle Cascate hut. It sits enthroned on a wide alpine pasture, surrounded by Dolomite giants such as the Cima Uomo. The trail and forest tracks take you back towards Pozza. Here it is worth making a detour into the Val di Monzoni side valley to the south, which boasts a wild gorge and a beautiful high valley.
