Compared to Lake Garda, Lago d'Idro looks like a toy landscape. But the modellers have carved the trails very closely into the grassy slopes. (Lake tours, part 6 of the lakes series from BIKE 9/2007)

The number 136 doesn't sound particularly large at first. Of course, it depends on what is being counted. In our case, it's hairpin bends. A total of 136 hairpin bends wind down into the valley before our eyes. Not that you can see them all from up here. But I counted them. Because I simply couldn't believe how many times a path like this can make turns over 1,000 metres in altitude. And I've ridden this winding track quite a few times by now.
From the top, you can only see the first hairpin bends and, at the bottom, Lake Idro glistens like a puddle. Then the soft forest floor starts to hum under the tyres. But only briefly, because the next hairpin bend forces you to brake again.
