Cable car plus trails high up in the landscape equals fun. An equation that even the normal touring cyclist now easily understands. However, it is remarkable that this equation has now also spread here in the Dolomites. Okay, the image of the Italian biker with white socks, shaved legs and a fixed gaze on the heart rate monitor is no longer so current. The sight of fragile race hardtails with ultra-narrow tyres under Italian lycra bums has also become considerably rarer in the Dolomites in recent years. Nevertheless, Marek's performance is right on the edge of culture shock. "A little caution please," he underplays cheerfully. "There's a spot up ahead where not everyone drives!" He says, and zips into the descent with flying baggies, as if the sharp-edged boulders were made of foam rubber, as if the abyss wasn't waiting down there, but a cosy, soft duvet. Well, the home advantage here on the Civetta is granted to him.
It is said that the first officially signposted bike route in the Dolomites was created around this small village and idyllic mountain lake in the Belluno Dolomites. No wonder, then, that there is already a lively biking community in Alleghe.
