Dolomites after the lifts close - Feel the Alps Livigno
In autumn, the Dolomites are heavenly quiet, the streams of tourists on paths and trails ebb away, the most beautiful time for e-mountain bikers. Tours by Hans Rey in Latemar / Sesto, one in Livigno.

"Feel the Alps" E-MTB tour around Livigno

Yes, you could also do this mega tour on a normal bike, but not all the way. Even with an e-MTB, you need a high level of riding ability, especially on the steep, technical uphills. Here are the details of Hans Rey's royal tour, which only makes sense on an e-mountainbike:

Tour dates
Distance 77.3 km
Uphill 2393 hm

Demand
Driving technique high
Condition high
Battery 2 x 500 Wh

You can download the GPS data for the "Feel the Alps" E-MTB tour free of charge under this article. The link for the Delius Klasing online shop. There you have to register once, then you can add the GPS data (free of charge) to your shopping basket and receive it for download or as an e-mail.

The ultimate alpine experience, paired with technical riding finesse and flow experiences - that's why Hans Rey christened this tour "Feel the Alps".

Info Livigno

The precinct
Livigno was one of the first areas in the Alps to consistently focus on mountain bike tourism. The first trails on the Mottolino were built back in 2004. But the area also - or especially - offers touring cyclists perhaps the most versatile infrastructure in the entire Alpine region. Rideable crossings in all directions make the alpine experience in the region so complex: over the Trela Pass and Lago di Cancarno into the picturesque Val Mora in one direction; or over the Forcola di Livigno and Bernina Pass into the Engadine. And these are just two of the many possibilities.

How do you like this article?

Bike parks
The Mottolino bike park is one of the oldest parks in the world. With 13 trails, it is primarily home to downhillers and freeriders. On the other side of the valley, the relatively newly developed Carosello attracts visitors with a network of real flow trails. The Tutti Frutti Epic circuit by Hans Rey and Diddie Schneider takes almost a whole day (www.carosello3000.com).

Duty free
Thanks to its secluded location at 1816 metres above sea level, Livigno has always enjoyed duty-free status - a shopping paradise for savers. And: if you're smart, you can roll into town with an empty petrol tank. Because petrol is also unbeatably cheap here.

Accommodation
Good, inexpensive and especially recommended for bikers: Hotel Astoria (www.hastoria.it): Owner Alessandro anticipates his guests' every wish. Upper price level, elegant and with wellness: Hotel Lac Salin (www.lungolivigno.com). Hotel Francesin (www.francesin.it): cosy, bike-friendly and with wellness facilities.
Camping: Stella Alpina (www.campingstellaalpina.it), Camping Letizia (campingletizia.com), Camping Pemont (campingpemont.it).

Food and drink
Marco's Pub: delicious pizza and pasta variations almost around the clock. Afterwards, the pub is the place to be. Bistro Bivio: in the centre of the pedestrian zone, perfect for an aperitif and a snack after the tour. Camino Restaurant: local specialities, but also Italian cuisine. The best burgers: Why Not Bar and Food.

Bike shops and hire
Skialo (www.skialo.com): fully specialised in E-MTB rental with the latest Moustage bikes in all sizes. I'm Sport (www.imsport.it)Bikeshop directly at the beginning of the pedestrian zone. The Bike Store (thebikestore.it): Hire and repairs. Bikeshop Defox (www.defox.it)Perfect for quick and uncomplicated help with material problems.

Borderline experience: The mega tour leads over the most beautiful trails of the Alta Rezia and about a third of the way through Switzerland. If you want to complete the tour in one day, it's best to get up early. You should have a spare battery and an extra charger in your luggage, just in case.Photo: Infochart Borderline experience: The mega tour leads over the most beautiful trails of the Alta Rezia and about a third of the way through Switzerland. Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
