In the short trip section, we present two cycle tours in each region. Here are two tour tips around the Schlei
59 km, 400 hm, max. gradient 5 %
Surface one third each, tarmac, easily passable gravel and relatively bumpy dirt tracks
From Kappeln to Maasholm, from the fishing village at the mouth of the Schleim almost exclusively with a view of the Baltic Sea to the north. This is already pretty marvellous, but it gets even better behind the Falshöft lighthouse. From there, you circle the Geltinger Birk nature reserve with its marshes, forests and beach lakes. With a bit of luck, you might even see the wild horses that live here, and in any case you can look across to Denmark. From Wasserballig, the route leads through undulating farmland back to Kappeln.
59 km, 450 m elevation gain, max. gradient 6 %
Surface predominantly tarmac, of which almost exclusively roadside cycle paths. Otherwise partly well passable and sometimes bumpy field paths
Past the museum harbour in Kappeln on a "Schlei(ch)weg" to Arnis. Take the ferry (1 April to 31 Oct., 9 am - 7 pm) across to the other side to Schwansen. From Winnemark to Sieseby, the trail leads directly along the Schlei, then a little away from the fjord, always with wonderful views of the water. At Missunde, take the ferry back to the northern shore and cycle back to Kappeln via Arnis on mainly well-maintained cycle paths.
