Watching pots by bike
The Kehdinger Land behind the Elbe dyke is a little paradise for relaxed cycle tours. The Elbe is a wonderful place to "watch the pots". Two MYBIKE tour suggestions

Here you can see in the morning who's coming for tea in the afternoon." The East Frisians actually have something of a copyright on this saying. But it also applies to the Kehdinger Land, a picture-book northern German landscape south of the Elbe. The region in the Lower Saxon Elbe marshes is also perfectly flat and therefore ideal for relaxed cycle tours. Especially if you are travelling by e-bike. Because then even the wind can't harm you. The only problem is the dykes. They tend to get in the way and block your view.

There are no two opinions about the usefulness of the dykes; without them, the towns and villages along the Elbe would have been submerged long ago. But the dykes are a bit annoying because you usually have to cycle underneath them, on the side facing the land. And the views there are often pretty poor. The only thing you have left: You have to cycle up one of these short cuts to the top of the dyke. At the top, you usually discover that it doesn't go any further - and you can see across lush green marsh meadows to the Elbe. ...

The MYBIKE tour tips for the Kehdinger Land

Tour 1: Old cranes and hover ferries

From Krautsand, the route continues along the Elbe dyke to the Hanseatic town of Stade with its picturesque old harbour. From there, you head inland and soon have the meadows and pastures of the Kehdinger Land almost to yourself. After just under 50 kilometres, you reach the Oste, where it is worth taking a detour eastwards to Germany's oldest transporter bridge. A short distance back along the Oste dyke, continue north along the idyllic Rönn dyke before crossing the Wischhafener Süderelbe at Dornbusch and arriving back on Krautsand.

Tour 2: Dyke tour with a view of the Elbe

From Krautsand via Wischhafen to Freiburg, either along the dyke or through the meadows. Behind Freiburg you can cycle along the outer dyke in summer and see the big ships on the Elbe. Return from Gut Hörne via Balje and Krummendeich to Freiburg and from Wischhafen either over the barrage or via Dornbusch to your destination. Passage of the barrage in Wischhafen is possible from 1 May to the end of September on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 12 noon and 5 pm to 7 pm. Alternatively, you can drive from Wischhafen via Wolfsbruch and Dornbusch to the Elbe dyke. It is worth taking a look at the barrage, which is sometimes open outside of official times, for example when work is being carried out there.
