Especially the beautiful views, such as the Deseberg near Warburg, which is crowned by a castle. The cycle route runs along the Diemelsee lake and passes points of interest such as the slate quarry in Willingen, the burial mounds near Liebenau, the old town centre of Warburg, Trendelburg Castle, the moated castle in Wülmersen and the baroque town of Bad Karlshafen.
The well-signposted cycle path, which is labelled as family-friendly, does have some climbs, but most of them are relatively short and not too steep. You only have to struggle a little more towards Padberg.
110 km of cycle path accompany the Diemel from its source near the village of Usseln to its mouth in the Weser in Bad Karlshafen. A tip e.g. for a long weekend with 2-3 stages. The route mostly runs on quiet tarmac roads, field and forest paths, sometimes with unpaved sections, but these are easy to cycle on. The Diemel Cycle Route is signposted throughout. A cyclist depicted with colourful circles points the way. The logo is characterised by the ammonite in the front wheel. The Diemel cycle path is also recommended for children aged 10 and over. If the Diemel tour has whetted your appetite, you can continue cycling on the Weser cycle path or the Ruhr cycle path.
