The 172 km long Nuremberg countryside tour
The Franconian Alb offers cyclists a wide range of tour options. The 172-kilometre-long Nuremberg countryside tour is perfect for a long weekend. Families with children can also explore the Nuremberg region on shorter tours.

Cycling paradise Nürnberger Land" - this is the title of the new brochure for cyclists and e-bikers. Cyclists in the region east of Nuremberg have over 1000 kilometres of cycle paths of varying degrees of difficulty at their disposal. In addition to the well-known five-river long-distance cycle route, 20 "Nürnberger Land tours" have been created in the region and are summarised in the brochure. The themed tours are mostly on flat routes between 20 and 45 kilometres in length and most of them are also suitable for families with children. There is a lot to discover along the routes, such as the Zeidler Museum in the Hutzlerhaus in Feucht with its extensive collection of bee-related artefacts on the "Southern Reichswald Tour". Or the Wenglein Park in Hirschbachtal on the "Four Valleys Tour", where families and nature lovers can discover orchids, fire salamanders and rare birds on nature trails. The tip for ambitious cyclists with a good basic level of fitness: the Nürnberger Land Runde. This 172-kilometre circular tour partly follows the individual routes and offers a complete overview of the diversity of the Nuremberg cycling region in three days. While the tour begins with a leisurely ride through the Reichswald forest and along the old Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal, there are some tough climbs in the Franconian Alb, but cyclists are rewarded with fantastic views of the charming Pegnitz Valley and medieval villages. There are also plenty of opportunities to recharge your batteries in the villages with a typical Franconian snack.

Detailed tour descriptions, tips on where to stay overnight, repair workshops and bike hire can be found in the brochure published by Nürnberger Land Tourismus, tel. 09123/950-6062, holiday.nuernberger-land.de

Nuremberg Country Tour - 172 km - 3 stages

While the tour begins with a leisurely ride through the Reichswald forest and along the old Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal, there are some tough climbs in the Franconian Alps, but cyclists are rewarded with fantastic views of the charming Pegnitz valley and medieval villages.

This leisurely tour starts in Pommelsbrunn. The route runs along the Högenbach stream, past the Hunas Cave, where the oldest evidence of human life in Bavaria has been found. Suitable for families with children.

From Feucht, the tour leads along well-maintained cycle paths across the Ludwig-Main-Danube Canal. Along the former towpath, over a dam and on forest paths through the Reichswald forest, the route leads back to Feucht. A worthwhile stop is the Zeidel Museum, where you can learn all there is to know about bees.

The tour starts in Lauf a. d. Pegnitz. It is worth stopping at the moated castles in Malmsbach and Oberbürg, but you should plan time for the historic old town of Nuremberg in particular. The route back to Lauf leads along the five-river cycle path through the meadows of the Pegnitz valley.
