Relaxed through Bavaria on the Isar cycle path
From the Karwendel mountains to the mouth of the Danube, the Isar has many faces. The 300 kilometre long-distance cycle route along its banks is varied and largely free of climbs.

In addition to the travel special "The most beautiful cycle tours in Upper Bavaria", the exact map of the tour and the GPX track can be downloaded here.

Tour 19: Isar cycle path

The first section of the Isar cycle path may indeed remind you a little of Canada. From its source, the crystal-clear mountain stream flows through the mighty Karwendel massif to Scharnitz and then across the green border into Bavaria. With marvellous views of the Ester and Wetterstein mountains, the cycle path follows it past Mittenwald and Krün to Wallgau. Here, the Isar Cycle Path crosses the Art & Culture Loop of the Water Cycle Paths and provides a scenic cycle route via the imposing Sylvenstein reservoir with its turquoise-blue reservoir until shortly before Lenggries.

Shortly before Munich, cycle traffic on the Isar cycle path becomes heavier. However, you leave the state capital virtually car-free and in the countryside through the English Garden and Hirschau and then into the alluvial forests of the district of Freising. The Hop & Beer Loop branches off to the north-west. If you continue along the Isar cycle path, you will reach the mouth of the Isar in Deggendorf via the historic towns of Landshut, Dingolfing, Landau and Plattling after around 300 kilometres.
