From Hochspeyer to Bad Bergzabern – a journey from north to south, right through the length of the Palatinate Forest. At first glance, 93 kilometres sounds like a very ambitious day trip, but as this route offers more than just stunning deciduous woodland and trails to discover, it’s best to allow two to three days. The route’s highlights: the single-track technical course in Hochspeyer, the Palatinate World Axis, the House of Sustainability in Johanniskreuz, the Eschkopf Tower, the Hermersbergerhof with the Luitpold Tower, Lindelbrunn Castle, the Kellerfelsen and, at the end of the final stage, the Südpfalz-Therme in Bad Bergzabern.
It’s just a shame that, until now, after the tour you could roll straight from the Südpfalz-Therme to the station, freshly showered, and take the train back to Hochspeyer in an hour and a half. Unfortunately, this shuttle service is currently unavailable because the railway is carrying out extensive track repair work on this route. In addition, new electronic signal boxes are to be installed in Kandel and Winden. The whole project is expected to last until 30 September 2026.
So anyone who had planned a pleasant, shaded summer walk through the Palatinate Forest will have to organise an alternative return journey. Or you could simply postpone the walk until October. By then, the forest will be ablaze with autumn colours and the train shuttle service will (hopefully) be running again.

A total of 900 kilometres of signposted mountain bike trails await in the Palatinate Forest. You can put together your own routes or follow one of the 20 signposted circular routes, up to 25 per cent of which consist of trails.
You can spend the night at special “trekking campsites” in the middle of the forest. You register and the GPS coordinates of these forest sites – which are equipped with a fire pit and toilet – are sent to your mobile phone.
