Old Schooler: Bike park in Hindelang
Full-throttle blasting: The bike park in Hindelang has been around for a long time, but it doesn't really appear on the radar. This is perhaps due to its reputation for being pretty old-school.

The terrain is steep, the bends are usually tight and the rocky ground is often slippery - which doesn't really suit the modern riding style with speed and flow. In fact, in Hindelang you are often stuck on the brakes and zigzag through choppy turns. Sometimes you have to be slow for the stunts and drops, sometimes fast. You need to hit the landings precisely, as there isn't much space on the narrow trail.

The routes

In principle, there is only one interesting route in Hindelang: Black Rock, 3.4 kilometres long, 523 metres in altitude. The descent begins with a few drops and jumps and leads through the forest, but then the terrain becomes increasingly steep. The rather narrow trail makes the route challenging, especially if you want to get air under your tyres. There are a few stunts, jumps and drops, but it's mainly about destroying altitude, whereby the tight bends usually keep the flow to a minimum. Highlight: a well-built 2-metre gap drop. Flow only comes far down. Here you are entertained by a successful Northshore construction (step-up, gap, etc.). With more speed, the trail undulates back to the valley station. An easy alternative is the Yellow Banana trail. Here, the operators have made it easy for themselves, as it goes downhill on gravel paths. Small wooden drops and berms are there to spice up the boring descent. Tricky: after all the mini-drops, there is suddenly a gap jump over a rock hole. If you jump too short here, you could seriously injure yourself!

ConclusionOld school park in a beautiful Allgäu mountain setting with a challenging, steep, somewhat choppy descent. The alternative trails are not really worthwhile.
