The precinct
The Eifel is located in the west of Germany, in the triangle between the cities of Aachen, Trier and Koblenz. At 747 metres, the highest mountain is the Hohe Acht near the Nürburgring. The tour leads through the eastern part of the low mountain range, past the famous maars. Although the circular volcanic lakes are the tourist landmark of the Eifel, they only make up a comparatively small region. Away from them, bikers will find secluded trails and forest paths. There is also a signposted network of trails under the name Trailpark Vulkaneifel. Info: http://vulkan.bike/trailpark-2
Return transport
As this is a one-way route, a return transfer is necessary. If you are travelling from the north, take the train from Remagen to Wittlich. Alternatively, you can set off by bike from Wittlich and then take the train from Remagen back to the starting point. Hourly connection between the towns, journey time approx. 2.5 hours, one change in Koblenz. There are no problems taking bikes on the regional train.
Sleeping
The Eifel is sparsely populated, so you won't find accommodation in every village. Exceptions are the Maare region around Daun and the catchment area of the Nürburgring. In Adenau (stage 2), it is therefore advisable to make a reservation.
