The Innerste rises in the Upper Harz Mountains not far from the mining town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, where Germany's largest wooden church is located. In addition to magnificent churches and castles, the little river route leads to four World Heritage sites along its 100 kilometres: the Upper Harz Water Management with its countless ponds and watercourses, the Rammelsberg mine and the old town of Goslar as well as the cathedral in Hildesheim.
Character
The route is mostly flat or slightly downhill on quiet, tarmac side roads, with some sections on field and forest paths.
Route
Clausthal-Zellerfeld - Buntenbock - Lautenthal - Langelsheim - (detour to Goslar) - Salzgitter-Ringelheim - Derneburg - Groß Düngen - Hildesheim - Sarstedt.
The cycle route is signposted throughout with the blue-green "Innerste" logo.
Tour combinations
In Goslar connection to the D-Route 3, in Sarstedt to the Leine-Heide-Radweg and the Wasser-Kunst-Weg.
Arrival/means of transport
Arrival and departure by train to Goslar (from there by bus, max. 2 bicycles) and from Hildesheim, www.bahn.de.
