If you prefer a more leisurely ride, simply cycle along the riverside cycle path on one side of the Rhine, for example from Bingen to Koblenz, and back again on the other side. With the help of various ferries, the route can also be varied as desired. If you prefer a more sporty and solitary route, take the Loreley-Aar cycle path. From St. Goarshausen, the route leads from the banks of the Rhine up into the north-west Taunus and into the Aar valley to Hahnstätten. You can literally fly over the hills of the low mountain range on an e-bike. Those without a motor will work up a sweat on the more than 40 kilometres and around 800 metres in altitude. But along the route, which is mostly traffic-free, there are plenty of cosy inns to stop off at.
Those interested in culture can immerse themselves in history, for example in the Schinderhannes House of the notorious 18th century robber, or in natural history in the Geological Museum in Bettendorf. If you've acquired a taste for hill surfing, you can continue your autumn tour in a varied way by cycling along the Aar towards Diez, turning onto the Lahn Cycle Path towards the Rhine and finally rolling back through the World Heritage Middle Rhine Valley to the starting point in St. Goarshausen. This adds up to around 130 kilometres.
The GPX track for retracing the Loreley-Aar cycle route is available free of charge on the MYBIKE tour portal:
