The cycle tour in the centre of Germany begins at the foot of the statue of the "proud Hercules", Kassel's landmark in the baroque Bergpark around Wilhelmshöhe Palace. From here, the Hercules-Wartburg Cycle Route connects the Documenta city with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Wartburg Castle, high above Eisenach. The route through Hesse and Thuringia winds its way through the gently undulating landscape of the Ringgau and through typical local half-timbered villages, which are perfect for breaks and short walks. Sections of the former German-German border and Creuzburg Castle, the so-called "sister castle" of Wartburg Castle, are also of historical interest. Those interested in culture will also visit the Luther and Bach House in Eisenach.
Character
The route is flat and asphalted through river valleys and the wide hills of the Ringgau. The route is uniformly signposted.
