The biking area in the Vogtland, especially in the forests around Schöneck, promises anything but boredom. Here it lies, the promised land, Mike's "Haamit", as he affectionately calls it in the slang of the locals. It has everything an off-road cyclist needs: gravel tracks, single trails, endless scenery and, of course, mountains! After all, they are high enough to scratch the clouds in bad weather. But above all high enough to justify a small chainring on the bike. In any case, Mike and his accomplice Matze want to give me a few lessons in local history over the next few days - in a technical bike sense, of course. And I really need it. Because apart from a few bizarre facts that a few clicks on the internet brought to light, the Vogtland has so far completely eluded me. You can come across all sorts of funny place names along the way, such as Poppengrün, Siehdichfür or Pausa.
