A small patch of low mountain range with an infinite number of hand-width trails has got BIKE editor Matthias Dreuw hooked on biking. The Heilbrunnenweg is an insider tip for bikers.

It all started with a Kettler steel bike, my bike mates and an addiction to single trails. In 1989, the Alps were out of reach for us. That's why we looked for our daily dose of happiness hormones ourselves. Right on our doorstep, in Windecker Ländchen, between Bonn and Siegen. One bike route is indelibly etched in my memory: the Heilbrunnenweg. A path that cuts a narrow, earthy strip through sparse deciduous forest 500 metres from my front door - and became a fixed item on the agenda of my holiday home.
